Piano PIC

As an application of our previous post, here is a project where we used our PicPgm to program a PIC18F4550 micro-controller.

This little project is an example of a simple audio application using a PIC micro-controller. Using only digital inputs and outputs, we developed this simple piano/synthesizer with an 8 bit kind of style: (more…)

PIC programmer

PIC Programmer – PicPgm

While we’re still working on the next workshops, here’s a very simple and useful mini project, a low cost 40 pins PIC programmer using the serial port.

Micro-controllers play a very important role in electronics, as they are able to perform tasks in automation, control, image processing, among others. Their usage is immense. There are various families of micro-controllers, one of those is the Microchip’s PIC (Peripheral Interface Controller). PICs are very popular as they are relatively cheap and because of their characteristics, for example their low power consumption, internal oscillator and free development tools. (more…)

automatic agitator

PCB Automatic Agitator

Following the last publication about PCB (printed circuit board) manufacture, we present another useful project. The corrosion with iron perchloride, is a slow speed process, but we can accelerate the process, by agitating regularly the solution. To do this, we created a simple device, able to make an automatic PCB agitator, using an old DVD desktop drive. (more…)

DIY PVC Tweezers

PVC tweezers for the manufacture of PCBs

In PCBs manufacture, it’s required to handle very carefully the printed circuit board, due not compromise the work done so far, and to avoid the risks of the chemicals used in the process.

One of the tools used in the manufacture process of PCBs are the tweezers. These can not be in metal material, because the perchloride of iron, is a metal corrosive.

eLab leaves here a suggestion, of how to make various sizes of tweezers. From a PVC strip, and the help of a hot air gun, we can mold the PVC in the form of a tweezer. (more…)

PoE adapters

Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter

Power over Ethernet or PoE, is the technology used for power transmission in network equipment, via network UTP cable, together with data. PoE is useful in situations when we want to connect network devices that are far away from a power source. In this situation we take advantage of the Ethernet cable, because there are 4 pairs of wires, but for the majority of networks, only 2 pairs are used for data transmission. PoE uses 2 unused twisted pairs, for electrical transmission needed to power the device. (more…)
