The University of Algarve has just organized the 3rd edition of the UAlg Summer Courses. These offer the young students insight over many different areas like art & design, sciences, communications, sports, economy, management & tourism, engineering, medicine and sociology.

eLab Hackerspace had the opportunity to contribute to the event with a DIY PCB fabrication workshop as well as a small project presentation.

Focused on high school students, these courses have the main goal of promoting the interest and passion for different areas of study and research, to help them discover about their true vocation.

This initiative allows the young students to feel the academic reality and contact directly with the University students and teachers thus creating a unique experience.

As an Hackerspace we showed them a few of our projects, taught them a bit about hackerspaces, the maker community, electronics, programming, open source and libre hardware spirit, reusing old devices, and even introduced them to the 3D printing world (they had the opportunity to see our LulzBot TAZ4 printing a few gifts).

Then we also gave a small workshop about Printed Circuit Board manufacturing, DIY style! Where they all had the opportunity to create their own PCB. Here are some photos:
